The Many at Forefront Brooklyn

Come to church on Sunday to welcome worship collective The Many as both speakers and musical guests!

The Many is a creative collective that believes there is power in singing together – it changes things inside us and around us - and their vision is to create music we can sing together that’s honest, full of questions, full of faith and doubt, full of longing. These are not songs about a God who only loves some of us.  This is not head in the clouds “worship music” - but feet on the ground, heart in hands, scars revealed, wild and holy, liturgically-seasoned music of resistance, reconciliation and restoration. This is music made for people to sing with each other, in churches, in living rooms, in basements and bars...anywhere, everywhere... in spirit and in truth. The Many features vocalists, Darren Calhoun, Leslie Michele and Hannah Rand, along with guests and collaborators. themanyarehere.com

Gospel and Race Conference

  • New Life Fellowship Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Racial hostility remains one of the most challenging issues for the church and our world in the 21st century. The complexity of race, class, gender and culture often lead to superficial, short-term, programmatic solutions rather than transformational change in our personal lives, ministries and organizations.

Join us at this conference, as we learn the theology, tools, practices, and space for dialogue to equip us as followers of Jesus to be peacemakers and reconcilers.

Grafted NYC presents The Church is Queer

Lenny Duncan is the unlikeliest of pastors. Formerly incarcerated, he is now a black preacher in the whitest denomination in the United States: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Shifting demographics and shrinking congregations make all the headlines, but Duncan sees something else at work--drawing a direct line between the church's lack of diversity and the church's lack of vitality. The problems the ELCA faces are theological, not sociological. But so are the answers.

Part manifesto, part confession, and all love letter, Rev. Duncan’s first book “Dear Church: A love Letter from a Black preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the U.S” offers a bold new vision for the future of Duncan's denomination and the broader mainline Christian community of faith. Dear Church rejects the narrative of church decline and calls everyone--leaders and laity alike--to the front lines of the church's renewal through racial equality and justice.

It is time for the church to rise up, dust itself off, and take on forces of this world that act against God: whiteness, misogyny, nationalism, homophobia, and economic injustice. Duncan gives a blueprint for the way forward and urges us to follow in the revolutionary path of Jesus.

Join us in the chapel at St. Bart’s Church as Lenny reads The Church is Queer, an excerpt from Dear Church, and discusses the role of the church in dismantling white supremacy. Guests of the forum will receive a free preview of the book, and a reception will be held afterwards with drinks and refreshments provided. You can pre-order Dear Church here.

We’ll see you there!

The Gospel, Sexual Violence and #MeToo

Right now, the reality of sexual violence against women and girls is being more and more exposed. How are we, as Christ-followers, pressing into this? How can we use our power to affirm the dignity and worth of survivors?

Be informed about how this is played out today and how we can take action by attending the talk hosted by Restore NYC.
