Bless the Ballot Week 7 #1: All the Dish About Early Voting
Galatians 6:7-8
“Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, they will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All they’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in them, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.”
Early Voting in New York began on October 24th! Voting early can cut down on the lines and crowds on voting day, slowing the spread of Covid-19.
Here are a few things that you can expect.
1. Check your voting location.
Early voting locations are NOT the same as election day locations. You can check out your spot HERE.
**Also confirm your polling times. Each poll location has different polling times which can vary day by day.
2. Check the Ballot
Look at your ballot, before going. Be sure to research any initiatives that you may be voting on. You can view your sample Ballot here.
3. Check the Requirements
Be sure you are checking the requirements for your state. ID requirements can be found HERE. Most voters will not need to provide an ID to vote, but it is good to check the qualifications in advance. In New York all voters will need to have a mask to be able to vote. Many voting advocate groups are planning on providing disposable masks at polling locations on election day, but for early voting you should have your own.
4. How will you get there
Now is the time to design your voting plan. Ask yourself, how are you getting there? When are you going? What neighbors can you help get to the polls?
Not in New York? Check out requirements for other states here!
IMPORTANT: If you are planning to vote by mail, your request for a ballot MUST be in by October 27th, 2020. Your Ballot MUST be postmarked by November 3rd, 2020.
Go forth and spread seeds of change.
Happy Voting!
